Observer Role in The Sandbox
Observers are participants who join Sandbox sessions to watch and learn without actively interpreting. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into interpreting techniques and strategies through careful observation.
As an observer, you will:
Silently watch live practice sessions
See how interpreters handle various scenarios
Observe mentor-student interactions
Learn from others' successes and challenges
Gain exposure to diverse interpreting situations
Observers play a crucial part in creating a realistic environment for practicing interpreters, simulating the presence of non-participating audience members often found in real-world settings.

Observing sessions can be an invaluable learning experience, offering a different perspective on the interpreting process and helping to build a well-rounded understanding of the profession.
Become a Sandbox Mentor
Mentors are the backbone of our Sandbox interpreter training program. As experienced professionals, mentors play a crucial role in guiding and developing the next generation of interpreters.
What Mentors Do:
Lead 45-minute interpreting practice sessions
Provide real-time feedback and coaching
Conduct post-session debriefs and evaluations
Follow the AIM Sandbox Guidelines and Feedback Checklist
Foster a supportive learning environment
Ideal Mentor Candidates:
Experienced interpreters with 5+ years of experience
Passionate about interpreter education
Excellent communication and coaching skills
Comfortable with virtual platforms
Compensation and Benefits:
Preset payment for the first hour of each session
The second hour is provided pro bono, demonstrating a commitment to the field
AIM will cover the cost of the Mentor's CEUs
Opportunity to shape the future of the interpreting profession
Continuous learning through engagement with diverse scenarios and interpreters
Time Commitment:
Flexible scheduling based on your availability
Provide 1 month in advance availability
Receive 70% of the session's profit
Recieve .2 Ceus
Pre-session preparation (brief content analysis) and post-session (feedback) documentation are required for CEUs.
